Ioan Alexandru Sucan

Dr. Ioan Sucan is a research scientist at Willow Garage. He received his a Ph.D. in computer science from Rice University in 2011, under the supervision of Dr. Lydia E. Kavraki. Dr. Sucan's thesis, "Task and Motion Planning for Mobile Manipulators", introduced an approach to solve the simultaneous task and motion planning problem in a manner that is robust and efficient. Dr. Sucan's research interests include motion planning under constraints, task and motion planning for manipulation, parallelizable search algorithms and planning under uncertainty.
Dr. Sucan received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering and computer science from Jacobs University, Bremen, Germany, in 2006 and the M.S. degree in computer science from Rice University, Houston, TX, in 2008.
