PR2 Availability

The PR2, a two-armed mobile robot, has been designed to be a development platform for mobile manipulation research and applications. Optimized for human environments and situations, the PR2 will be able to engage in a multitude of tasks.

After Willow Garage completes a series of milestones it has set for itself, the company will issue a Call for Proposals -- allowing researchers, worldwide, from academic, non-profit and for-profit organizations to apply to secure a PR2 development platform

Researchers must have relevant robotics experience, sufficient resources to leverage the PR2, and be able to distribute their work under an Open Source license.

Approximately ten PR2s will be made available through the Willow Garage PR2 beta program.

Willow Garage's objectives for this program are fourfold:

  1. Enable scientific breakthroughs in personal robotics
  2. Expand the Open Source robotics community
  3. Develop reusable components and tools
  4. Explore new applications for personal robots
